44 Auto Mag
The 44 Auto Mag (44 AMP) is essentially a rimless version of the 44 Remington Magnum, designed by Max Gera and Harry Sanford for the big Auto Mag semiautomatic pistol. The first production pistols were produced in 1971, but the company failed, as did subsequent attempts. Performance is identical to the 44 Remington Magnum, but using a slightly longer rimless case that can be formed by shortening 308 Winchester or 30-06 cases. The Auto Mag pistol, though reliable, is rare--but it's big and bad-looking and has been used in numerous action movies. Factory ammunition is available from Cor-Bon. — Craig Boddington
