8mm Remington Magnum
The 8mm Remington Magnum was introduced in 1978. Based on the 375 H&H case necked down with body taper removed, Remington's "Big Eight" is a full-length (2.850-inch case) magnum, both powerful and flat-shooting. It quickly achieved the reputation of being a hard kicker, which it is.It has not been popular, perhaps because of recoil, perhaps because the 8mm bullet diameter has never caught on in North America, and perhaps because it is redundant of 338 performance, but it is an extremely effective cartridge for elk, bear, and other large game. Remington's remaining factory load features a 200-grain bullet at 2900 fps. — Craig Boddington
