All CZ 550's feature a classic square bridge receiver with a 19mm dovetail milled right into the receiver for the mounting of optics. For accuracy and long life these rifles are fitted with hammer forged barrels.

The rifle has CZ's single set trigger. This is a trigger that looks and functions as a normal trigger with all the adjustments, it also works as a set trigger by pressing the trigger forward until it click, then the slightest touch around one lbs. fires the rifle. In my experience , this greatly reduces the group size and helps eliminate flyers. It will take a little practice to get the feel of that very light set trigger. Once you master it, your shooting skills will be greatly improved. Wish all my rifles had this trigger system.
The 338 Lapua can easily out shoot any 50 BMG at a 1000 yard match. The cartridge is basically a necked down and shortened 416 Rigby. As such it requires a very large rifle frame like the unique CZ 550 Magnum action. Most of us have seen short action rifles like .308's and long action like 30-06's then beyond those frames there is the huge CZ 550 Magnum action which is perfectly suited for the .338 Lapua. Strangely the smallest ammunition that is chambered in a CZ 550 magnum action is a 375 H&H where the rifle seems to be too over sized for that round. The CZ 550 magnum action has been around for decades under another name before the fall of the Berlin wall when it was not available in the US but it was the most common bolt action rifle used in Africa used by African Professional Hunters chambered in .458 Win, 458 Lott, 416 Rigby, 500 Jeffery and 505 Gibbs. This rifle action has proven it self in Africa to be the most reliable , accurate and rugged bolt action rifle action ever made. It is now reborn in this tactical rifle version.

The 338 Lapua Magnum was developed in the 1980s in the United States with Finland's Lapua the initial manufacturer. It is based on the big, unbelted 416 Rigby case necked down to 338 with a case length of 2.724 inches. The intent was a long-range sniping cartridge that would fill the range gap between the 308 Winchester, then the standard, and the 50 BMG. Accurate and fast, with a 250-grain bullet at 3000 feet per second or a heavier, more aerodynamice 300-grain bullet at 2750 fps, it has been used successfully by numerous militaries in the Southwest Asia conflicts for long-range sniping, from 1500 yards to well beyond 2500 yards. As a hunting cartridge it is the most powerful of the 33-caliber cartridges, finding favor with today's increasing number of long-range specialists.
