Product Summary

Cimarron 1858 Remington Navy Percussion Revolver .36 Cal 7.5" Barrel Blue Steel Brass. 2-Piece Walnut Grip Standard Blue Finish .

During the Civil War, the U.S. Navy purchased about 4,300 of the 28,000 Remington New Model Navy revolvers produced. Manufactured from 1863-1878 and now commonly known as the 1858 Navy, this medium-powered .36 caliber cap-and-ball sixgun was well liked by Union sailors and others who packed them. The top strap design gave the handgun more strength and aided in preventing exploded percussion caps from falling into the revolver's innards and jamming it when the gun is cocked for follow up shots. Cimarron's reproduction of this popular 1860s revolver faithfully copies the original, complete with the octagon barrel that measures 7 1/2 inches, the handsomely blued finish overall, the brass trigger guard, post-type blade front sight, grooved top strap rear sight, and two-piece walnut grips. Like Cimarron's 1858 Army model, the parts of this Remington lookalike are interchangeable with the original. The 1858 Navy is a handsome, historic revolver that's a time-tested straight shooter!

Even though these are called cap and ball revolvers, during the Civil war and Westward expansion they were almost exclusively used with heavier conical bullets. Please see our two cavity Lee Bullet Mould and our Brass Pedersoli mould with one Ball cavity and one Conical bullet cavity.

I had this gun for a few weeks now and like it more every time I shoot it. Right out of the box it shot about 18 inches high at 30 yards but windage was very good. After slowly filing down the front sight it has been shooting very well. I can keep most of my shots inside a 6 inch circle at the 30 yards target off a rest. I also widened the front sight so it would be easier to see with these old eyes. It now fills up the back sight with a little space on each side at the top of the V. Using various loads from 15 to 20 grains of black powder I see very little difference in accuracy, so I settled on 17 grains. It is a very comfortable load to shoot and I'm looking forward to a summer of shooting fun. Nice solidly built pistol that has very little cylinder movement when cocked. I would buy it again. Thanks, Larry Laughman
