Product Summary

Thompson Center Compass 30-06 Sprgfld 22" Barrel 5 Rounds Blued Composite

Building on a heritage of accurate, affordable firearms from a trusted American brand, the T/C Compass is a great choice for serious hunters on a budget. A feature-rich hunting rifle that is easy on the wallet, the Compass has a free-float barrel with 5R rifling and a threaded muzzle. The aluminum pillar bedding system positively locates the receiver for outstanding accuracy, and the bolt is electroless nickel-plated with Teflon for smoothness. It features a three-lug bolt design with a 60 degree lift for good scope clearance and a smooth, easy cycling action. The single-stage, adjustable trigger offers a crisp release for precision shooting, and the 3-position safety (with bolt lock) provides positive tactile feel, clear visibility and easy access. It has an ergonomic, lightweight stock for a classic look with modern contours, textured grip panels, and a soft rubber recoil pad. It uses a detachable, flush fit rotary magazine. The Compass comes with a detachable, flush fit rotary magazine, Weaver-style bases, and sling swivel studs.

Caliber Dictionary

The Below Information Has Been Provided From Our Gun Caliber Dictionary And Is Meant For Informational Purposes Only. It Is Not Intended to Describe The Unique Specifications For This Ammunition.
Properly "Caliber 30 Model of 1906," the 30-06 was developed at Springfield Armory for the 1903 Springfield rifle. The original 1903 cartridge, though very similar, used a round-nosed 220-grain bullet; the 1906 version used a 150-grain spitzer bullet with a slightly shorter case neck and case length of 2.494-inches. The 30-06, in Springfield, 1917 Enfield, and M1 Garand rifles, remained America's service cartridge through the Korean War. It was the most powerful cartridge ever adopted by a major military, and over time became America's most popular hunting cartridge. Today there are many good choices, but the 30-06 remains extremely popular throughout the world, suited for most North American big game and equally effective for African plains game. The most common standard loads today feature: 150-grain bullet at 2910 feet per second; 165-grain bullet at 2800 fps; and 180-grain bullet at 2700 fps. Choices in both rifles and ammunition are almost limitless.  — Craig Boddington
