Caliber Dictionary

The Below Information Has Been Provided From Our Gun Caliber Dictionary And Is Meant For Informational Purposes Only. It Is Not Intended to Describe The Unique Specifications For This Ammunition.
The 450 Bushmaster was designed by Tom LeGendre in 2008 to bring "big bore" performance into the AR-15 platform. Hornady has adopted it as a factory cartridge. Using a .452-inch bullet, it has a case length of 2.250-inches with a rebated rim. The 450 Bushmaster propels a 250-grain bullet at 2200 feet per second, yielding 2686 foot-pounds of energy. On game the 450 Bushmaster is similar in performance to the 45-70, thus well-suited for large game such as bear, moose, and elk in close cover. Numerous AR manufacturers offer 450 Bushmaster rifles and upper receivers, and Ruger has chambered it in their bolt action M77 Scout rifle. — Craig Boddington

Picked this one over the Ruger. Way nicer rifle, as it should be for the price. I’ve taken it to the range only once and had a blast literally. I’m not a hunter, but it should be just the ticket for big game under 200 yards. I like big holes though. First groups with Hornady Black ammo were about 2 inches at 100yds. I am sure I can do better. Recoil was no big deal, although I don’t think the 450 bushmaster would be much fun out of an AR off the bench. I will mostly hand load for it so am looking forward to experimenting. The Accustock is very comfy as delivered. I have not adjusted it yet. The bore is mirror bright and the trigger is typically Savage, pretty good. They advertise an 18inch barrel, but it’s really 16 with a 2 inch muzzle device.
