Caliber Dictionary
The Below Information Has Been Provided From Our Gun Caliber Dictionary And Is Meant For Informational Purposes Only. It Is Not Intended to Describe The Unique Specifications For This Ammunition.
The 416 Barrett was introduced by Chris Barrett in 2007. It is based on the 50 BMG case shortened and necked down to accept a .416-inch bullet, thus requires the very largest action. It is a highly specialized cartridge intended for extreme rangel shooting, and was designed for areas where 50 BMG rifles are restricted. Barrett's ammunition uses an aerodynamic 395-grain solid bullet, producing 3300 feet per second and over 9500 foot-pounds of muzzle energy. The 416 Barrett offers superb performance well beyond 2000 yards, but rifles so chambered must of necessity be extremely heavy...and even then recoil is significant. — Craig Boddington
