Product Summary

Originally, the AK-47 was developed using the world famous 7.62x39 cartridge. However, it isn't 1947 anymore, and improvements have been made to the legendary AK. This version is chambered in the popular 5.45x39 caliber, and is ballistically superior to the orginal AK, without sacrificing any of the ball/bat reliability the platform is known for. The brainchild of two of the best gun makers in the world, the SGL31-68 rifle is manufactured at the world-famous Izhmash Factory in Russia then imported and remanufactured by FIME Group, Las Vegas, NV into its final configuration.

The absolute reliability and authenticity make the SGL31-68 the only choice for collectors, perfectionists, and AK enthusiasts alike. All authentic components, made according to the original technology, and detailed attention, which went into the manufacturing, make the SGL31-68 THE rifle you will be proud to own and show off to your friends at the shooting range. The only truly configured AK-74 currently available in the US market that uses hammer forged and chrome lined barrel, the SGL31-68 offers the safety and reliability that you expect from your rifle, making it the highest quality AK-74 available on the market.

The SGL31-68 (AK-74) comes complete with a chrome lined hammer forged barrel, front sight block with bayonet lug and 24x1.5 right-hand threads, muzzle brake, U.S. made mil-spec Black color polymer stock set, standard mil-spec. handguards with stainless steel heat shield, Warsaw Pact length buttstock, U.S. made double stage trigger group, 1000 meter rear sight leaf, scope rail, and accessory lug.

Caliber Dictionary

The Below Information Has Been Provided From Our Gun Caliber Dictionary And Is Meant For Informational Purposes Only. It Is Not Intended to Describe The Unique Specifications For This Ammunition.
The 5.45X39mm (5.45X39 Russian, Soviet, Kalashnikov) was introduced by the Soviet Army in 1974 along with the AK-74 as a replacement for the AK-47 and its 7.62X39mm cartridge. Mikhail Kalashnikov designed the rifle, essentially an update of his more famous AK-47, but did not design the cartridge. Although case length is the same 39mm, the 5.45X39 is not based on the7.62X39mm case; with a smaller base diameter and a .220-inch bullet it is much more similar to the 5.56x45mm NATO cartridge, but with a shorter and slightly fatter case. The 5.45X39mm uses a 54-grain bullet at 2950 fps, so is slightly less powerful than the NATO cartridge, but is loaded to higher pressure (55,000 psi versus 52,000). The Russian Army has since replaced the AK-74, but retained the 5.45X39mm cartridge. Its standard bullet is a three-part design with copper jacket, lead core, and a steel penetrating rod; case material is typically steel. — Craig Boddington
