Product Summary

Theodore Roosevelt – hunter, naturalist, rancher, adventurer, President, Nobel Peace Prize winner – was not only a man of action who changed the world with his farsighted vision. His view of conservation has become the foundation for all great conservation efforts world-wide and his legacy is as strong today as ever.

This Model 1895 Winchester rifle honors this legacy.

This Custom version has grade 3-4 walnut, beautiful engraving on a blued receiver with extensive gold plating embellishment, extreme polish, tight fits and finishes and more. All coordinated between Winchester Repeating Arms and their custom embellishment partner, Baron Engraving of Connecticut.

Each rifle is engraved with many of the North American game species which Roosevelt pursued as a hunter and studied as a naturalist.

The Custom Model also has the added complement of a matted barrel (along the top) patterned after one of Roosevelt's 1895 rifles on display at the Cody Firearms Museum in Wyoming.
It is chambered in 405 Winchester.

Caliber Dictionary

The Below Information Has Been Provided From Our Gun Caliber Dictionary And Is Meant For Informational Purposes Only. It Is Not Intended to Describe The Unique Specifications For This Ammunition.
The 405 Winchester was introduced in 1904 in the Winchester Model 1895. It became famous as Theodore Roosvelt's "lion medicine" during his epic 1909 safari, but it was not never a common chambering. Bullet diameter is .411-inch. The rimmed case has a length of 2.5831 inches, which is maximum for the 1895 lever action, so the 405 Winchester is traditionally loaded with a light-for-caliber 300-grain bullet. With a velocity of 2200 fps and 3224 foot-pounds it is marginal for the largest game, but indeed ideal for lions and big bears. Obsolete for years, it is currently loaded by Hornady. Browning has made limited runs of new 1895s in 405, and Ruger has chambered it for their Number One single shot. It is occasionally seen in older double rifles and single shots. — Craig Boddington
