6.5x47 Lapua
The 6.5x47 Lapua was developed by Lapua in 2005 in cooperation with Swiss gunmaker Grünig & Elmiger AG in 2005. Its short 1.9-inch case is similar to the 7.62x51 NATO case, but the 6.5x47 is a unique case using a small rifle primer. It was designed for medium to long range (300 to 1000 meter) competition using the high Ballistic Coefficient of aerodynamic 6.5mm bullets. Velocity with a 140-grain bullet is about 2665 fps, thus a bit slower than the 6.5mm Creedmoor, but it remains supersonic to well beyond 1000 meters, so it does its work with minimal recoil, and has acquired a reputation for extreme accuracy. — Craig Boddington
