Product Summary

Remington 798 Rifle 375 H&H Mag 26" Barrel Walnut Stock Used Excellent condition.

This is a used rifle in excellent condition. Metal finish is near 100%. Has a high luster blue finish. The stock is solid one piece walnut with two reinforcing cross bolts. The shock show some light handling marks. The trigger guard, magazine and floor plate are all machined from steel. It has a push button magazine floor plate release.

Free floating barrel and glass bedded action.

The rifle makes a fine dangerous game rifle due to the strong Mauser action and positive feed.

The rifle has a fine adjustable trigger.

Scope rings and bases are included.

The magazine holds 3 rounds and one in the chamber.

Remington imported Zastava Mauser 98 barreled actions then finished them here in the US. The Remington 798 rifles are basically the same as the old Interarm Mark X rifles but have the Remington Logo on them and the Remington Walnut stocks.

The 375 H&H (375 Holland & Holland Magnum) was introduced by Holland & Holland in 1912 but, unlike so many British cartridges retained as exclusive or proprietary cartridges, it was released to the gun trade. Western offered the first American load in 1925, and it was an initial chambering for the Winchester Model 70 in 1937. The 375 H&H became and remains a world-standard hunting cartridge, generally considered a sensible minimum in power for thick-skinned dangerous game…yet flat-shooting and versatile enough for almost anything else. Standard loads include a 270-grain bullet at 2690 feet per second and a 300-grain bullet at 2530 fps, both yielding about 4300 foot-pounds of energy. With a 2.85-inch case the 375 H&H requires (and pretty much defines) a "full-length action." 375 H&H rifles and ammunition can be found almost anywhere in the hunting world. Recoil is considerable, but with adequate gun weight most shooters can learn to tolerate the 375 H&H.
