The 300 Winchester Magnum, introduced in 1963, was the last of Winchester's family of (nominally) 30-06-length belted magnums based on the shortened 300 H&H case. It followed the 458, 264, and 338 Winchester Magnums, but has an unusually short neck to maximize powder capacity. Initial reception was mixed; critics faulted the short neck, and it was caught up in Winchester's unpopular post-1964 manufacturing shift. It took time, but the 300 Winchester Magnum has not just survived but prospered. Today it is the world's most popular cartridge that wears a "magnum" suffix. It is manufactured by all ammunition manufacturers, chambered by all riflemakers who have a suitable platform, and often employed by military snipers in the Special Operations community. I have been doing research for quite some time to purchase a new bolt action rifle to start marking off hunts in my "bucket list". Most of the animals on this list required a larger caliber rifle than my .270 Encore that I had. I wanted the ability to make follow up shots without losing sight in the scope which I could not do with the Encore since it was a single shot. I became familiar with Bergara because they made replacement barrels for the Encore platform with accuracy as their "call to fame". If they could make a really accurate barrel, surely they could produce a quality complete firearm. After reading the reviews I elected to purchase a Bergara B14 in 300 win mag. When it arrived today, I was very pleased with the quality of the rifle and it had many things that are considered "upgrades" by other manufactures like textured stock, oversized bolt know and cocked indicator. The dealer I picked up my rifle from does not carry Bergara and he went on about the quality of Bergara firearms. Now I am waiting for my scope bases and rings to come in to I can put everything together and head to the range sight in scope and find the ammo it likes. Thanks Wholesale Hunter for a great price on a quality firearm. I will definitely purchase from you again!
