Product Summary

Cimarron 1873 Revolver Model P 4 3/4" .45 Colt Original Antique Finish

The 1873 peacemaker-style revolver, originally designed for the U.S. Cavalry, quickly became the archetypical sixgun of the frontier. Made in a number of powerful chamberings in different barrel lengths, besides the "peacemaker," it was also known by other monikers like "hogleg," smokewagon," and "equalizer." In civilian hands, it quickly earned a reputation as a rugged, hard-hitting, well balanced revolver and outsold all competitors. Men like Wyatt Earp, Bat Masterson, John Selman, the James-Younger gang, the Daltons, the Texas and later the Arizona Rangers, all packed this legendary arm and did their smoky work with it. With the coming of the Silver Screen, the Model P was reintroduced to an entirely new generation of admirers. In the hands of such Western stars as John Wayne, Roy Rogers, Hopalong Cassidy, Tom Selleck, Clint Eastwood and countless others, this sixgun has earned lasting fame with shooters and Old West fans alike! Considered as the most authentic and highest quality reproduction of the 1873 Colt, Cimarron's replica was reproduced in every detail from an original 1873 single action in our antique collection, and was not replicated by working simply from drawings, as with previous reproductions. We also took extra steps to improve the gun's reliability with our Cowboy Comp® action which eliminates weaknesses associated with the 19th century design. Offered in the 7 1/2, 5 1/2, or 4 3/4-inch barrel lengths, in either the pre-1896-style Old Model with the with the cylinder base pin screw located in the front of the frame, or the post-1896 Pre-War frame, where the cylinder base pin retaining screw is found on the side of the frame, in front of the cylinder. It comes in .32-20, .38-40, .38 Special/.357 Magnum, .44 Special, .44-40, .45 Colt or .45 ACP/Colt with dual cylinders. Available in Standard Blue, Charcoal Blue or Original Finish. Cimarron's Model P is the sixgun of the West!

Caliber Dictionary

The Below Information Has Been Provided From Our Gun Caliber Dictionary And Is Meant For Informational Purposes Only. It Is Not Intended to Describe The Unique Specifications For This Ammunition.
The 45 Colt (45 Long Colt) was introduced in 1873 in Colt's Single Action Army. Adopted by the U.S. military in 1875, it served until 1892 when it was replaced by the less powerful (and unsatisfactory) 38 Long Colt. Originally loaded with 40 grains of blackpowder and a 255-grain bullet the 45 Colt produced about 900 feet per second for more than 400 foot-pounds of energy, a powerful handgun cartridge for its day--and any day. Using a .454-inch bullet, today's standard load retains the 255-grain bullet at 860 fps. Lighter bullets at somewhat higher velocities are available. 45 Colt was the most common chambering in Colt's single action. Today it is chambered in virtually all centerfire single-action revolvers and has been chambered in numerous large-frame double-action revolvers. 45 Colt is the most popular revolver cartridge in cowboy action shooting, and remains a powerful and effective personal defense cartridge, its only drawback being the necessity for a large revolver to house it. — Craig Boddington
