A large flock of big Canada geese flying in "V" formation is a fall visual delight. Calling geese within shotgun range is challenging. As the hunting season progresses, flocks are more cautious. Good calling is required to be successful. Knowing, practicing, and being able to reproduce the exact sounds under various situations is most important. Mastering five of the most common calls will add to the enjoyment of the sport.
HAIL CALL - A long distance greeting made up of a series of spaced rhythmic honks.
GREETING CALL - An excited contact call often made when one group of geese meets another.
LAYDOWN CALL - Descending geese make this quick and repetitive signal note call when landing.
FEEDING CALL - A low volume call of contentment among geese in a feeding zone.
COMEBACK CALL - A pleading series of hail calls, attempting to draw back passing or leaving geese.
